I guess you want to know more about KNUST courses. Whether you want to register for your courses or you just want to get more information about the available courses, be sure to read this article. I have outlined some of the major things you need to know about these courses here.

KNUST courses and the registration process for this year is the topic we will be looking at today. There are many things you must know about the courses and the entire registration process.

Before we start, I assume you have filed your KNUST application and gotten admission to study at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Basically, that is the very step to your academic life at KNUST.

The most important thing is what you are about to study and where to start. Registering for a course is a very important part of the entire university life.

What are the KNUST Courses?
What is the difference between the Courses and Programmes?

These are two questions that most new students would like to get answered. Let us get to understand what they mean.

Courses and Programmes / Programs.

Googling the meaning of the word “course” might give you some better results since it will be explained as “a road or path”. Same way, “Programme or Program” will also be more related to events and software than education.

However, the word “course” when used in higher education in Ghana, refers to a class that lasts one semester or a whole academic year. The “courses” studied in this context are geared at achieving a particular grade.

Same way, a combination of some specific courses will help a student achieve a particular degree after completion. The degree that is achieved after taking the combination of courses is known as the “programme”.

For instance, Bachelors of Arts in Psychology will be a programme while Psychology 101 will be a course under the programme.

Now that you get what Courses and Programmes mean, let’s look at some of the courses available at KNUST.

KNUST Courses

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has different courses depending on what you want to study.


At KNUST, each programme has its own department or college. So If you are pursuing a particular degree, then you must join that particular college in order to register for KNUST courses.

The courses are registered after you have joined a particular college. You can use this like to check out the full details of available KNUST colleges or academic departments.

For now, I will be giving you some of the KNUST Colleges and their available faculties so you can know which programmes.

KNUST colleges

College of Agriculture and Natural Resources
The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources has two facilities and they are; the Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources. There are also Faculty research centres to aid research.

College of Art and Built Environment
This College also has two faculties. Faculty of Built Environment and Faculty of Art. There is also a research centre to help with research.

College of Humanities and Social Sciences
This particular College has three facilities and they are; the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the School of Business.

College of Engineering
The College of Engineering also has three faculties and they are; the Faculty of Civil and Geo-Engineering, the Faculty of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering, and the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering. There are over four research centres to aid learning in this college.

College of Health Sciences
This particular college is the largest offering different KNUST courses. The College has six faculties and they are; two separate Faculties of Allied Health Sciences, the School of Medicine and Dentistry, the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the School of Public Health, and the School of Veterinary Medicine.
This is the largest if we talk about the number of faculties.

College of Science
The College of Science has two faculties and they are the Faculty of Biosciences and the Faculty of Physical Sciences.

All the Colleges have their own programmes and courses so you have to visit their pages to know which KNUST courses are available at each college.

How many departments does KNUST?

Each college at KNUST has over three departments. The School of Medicine and Dentistry under the College of Health Sciences has the most departments. The School of Medicine and Dentistry has close to twenty (20) departments.
